This conference is hosted by the University of Queensland, at the St Lucia Campus, Brisbane.

About the UQ St Lucia Campus

The University’s main campus at St Lucia, Brisbane, is set on a magnificent 114-hectare site bounded on all sides by the Brisbane River, seven kilometres from the Brisbane CBD. The campus has expansive landscaped grounds, three lakes, an aquatic centre, tennis courts, eight athletics ovals with a 600-seat grandstand, and facilities for elite rowing. The campus fans out from a 1930s, heritage-listed sandstone Cloister enclosing the Great Court.

Brisbane climate

Brisbane is Australia's sunniest capital, with an average of 300 days of sunshine a year. It's no wonder Queensland is known as the "Sunshine State". Our sub-tropical summers and mild winters (with little need for heavy clothing) make the city a fabulous place to visit all year round. 

Our conference, held 19 - 29 January, will be in mid-summer. Summer in Brisbane is warm and humid, with a daytime average temperature of 30 degrees celcius (and average minimum temperature of 21 degrees celcius). It is also the wet season, so expect it to rain (particularly in late January). You might even be lucky enough to experience a refreshing thunderstorm during your stay!

Sightseeing

During the conference, we offer 3 excursions which we recommend you participate in. Not only are they fun, but for those new to Brisbane they are an excellent opportunity to sightsee. Our excursion to Australia Zoo is by bus, and takes you to the Sunshine Coast hinterland (about 1.5hrs drive north from Brisbane). Our excusion to Lamington National Park (about 2.5hrs by bus) takes us south out of Brisbane and up into the rainforest. Lastly, the trip to Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary is another opportunity to see areas outside of Brisbane as well as pat a koala!!...read more
