We offer three excursions during the conference. They are optional, and each cost a small fee, and they are GREAT FUN!

 

Australia Zoo

Home of Steve Irwin, the Crocodile Hunter! Australia Zoo (formerly known as the Reptile Park) has been operating since 1970 and holds a special place in the hearts of many Australians. The animals always come first at Australia Zoo, and it has a very strong conservation ethic, with the guarantee that "when you visit Australia Zoo, you are helping us to develop exciting new territory in wildlife and wilderness conservation. A portion of the proceeds go directly to support Australia Zoo’s conservation projects". Lamington National Park

A subtropical rainforest just 2 hours south of Brisbane. On this exciting tour, travel past gorges and cascading waterfalls on Mt Tamborine and visit the famous Lamington National Park. 

Declared in 1915, Lamington National Park covers 20 590 ha, and is part of the Gondwana Rainforests of Australia World Heritage Area, which includes the most extensive areas of subtropical rainforest in the world, most of the world's warm temperate rainforest and nearly all of the Antarctic beech Nothofagus moorei cool temperate rainforest. 

See spectacular panoramic views of the Gold Coast, northern New South Wales, and the McPherson Ranges. A range of different bushwalks will be offered led by knowledgeable local guides, ranging from easy walks to more strenuous mountain climbs, to explore the area's forests, creeks, waterfalls and wildlife. The beauty of the lush rainforests of Lamington Park awaits you!

Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary

Cuddle a koala!!! Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary in Brisbane, Australia, is the world's first and largest koala sanctuary, with over 130 koalas. Cuddle a koala anytime, handfeed kangaroos and encounter a large variety of Aussie wildlife, all in beautiful, natural settings. Don't forget to feed the lorikeets and meet the platypus too.

Additional activities

Bird Walk

Wednesday 21 January, 6:00 am, UQ

Our experienced birder, Hugh Possingham, will take participants for a walk to see some local birds. Encountering a mix of rainforest, bush, and urban-adapted birds in a variety of habitats along the Brisbane river and lake-side. Meet outside Cromwell College at 6am.
